For the last 5 days (since April 1st), we tested the experimental Searchlight SQL replacement of vBulletin Query of Death at GSMHosting site, using the binary protocol. They are currently using a RH5EL, Dual XEON 5570 (16 cores) box with 24GB of RAM.
Compared to Disboards results, the usage of 16 processors truly unleashed the Searchlight beast, with major gains on page execution speed, while the tables locks were completely eliminated and the server load significantly reduced. Take a look at the server load comparison, before and after Searchlight SQL was enabled: ![]() Note that the Searchlight Search add-on was already running since March 25th, we are not taking into consideration the search replacement changes. Let's look at the slow queries and table locks, before and after Searchlight SQL was enabled: ![]() The only slow query you see there is the nightly MySQL backup. Beside the fact that all tables locks were eliminated, Searchlight reduced also the CPU usage: ![]() I will ask Frank to share his experiences, since we switched his board to Searchlight SQL processing.

On 1st April we installed the Searchlight SQL replacement of vBulletin Query of Death. It is working without any problems. In the statistics we see the reduced serverload and reduced cpu usage. The forum is fast as never been seen before. I cannot show how fast it was before the searchlight sql, but now it is way faster. Check the speed here: gsmhosting
With this product we don't need to invest into new hardware. We save a lot of money by using searchlight with all the features. My admin / users are very happy. I recommend every vbulletin-admin to install this product, for me searchlight is the product of the year. |

That looks amazing! Frank, have you noticed any disadvantage what-so-ever?
We placed our order a few days ago and can't wait to see how things look at our site post-install!

The stats looks great zfrank. I'm impressed with the performance you are getting from a single server now. It's pretty clear that the money you will save by not having to upgrade your server anytime soon will more than pay for purchasing Searchlight here. I'm curious. Why aren't you using expires headers for the static content? I'd think you could gain a bit more and save on resources, unless you have a good reason for not using them.

I wish we had some graphs to share... We just installed Searchlight SQL a few days ago and have seen a great improvement. The load on our main DB server has dropped to an average of around 0.1 (sometimes as low as 0.00 -- unheard of!)... we also have a MySQL slave server which now stays around 0.5 - 0.8. We've also seen page load times going from around 0.65 down to 0.15-0.20.
Very nice.
