Our sphinx search setup experience

We have been looking for a decent search for www.disboards.com for a number of years. After viewing the youtube video spinball posted I thought this might be the answer. With 29 million posts search is a huge load for us. We had outsourced it to a third party search provider but my members were not happy.

I made arrangements with Floren to install his Sphinx search product. The first issue that came up was that his code was written for Red Hat 5 and our servers are still on Red Hat 4. He immediately offered to make the neccesary changes. Due to this change and a number of other issues related to our boards the installation took almost a whole night but Floren hung in there all the way. He has consistently demonstrated a willingness to go the extra mile to ensure a happy customer.

Now that the search is installed, we are completely happy with the results.

We found one very minor bug that Floren fixed immediately. My users are THRILLED with the new search. Our site activity is up dramatically as users are much happier. The best part is Floren's code added NO appreciable load to the server! It's like it's hardly there at all.
