Webmaster trends analysts Zineb Ait Bahajji and Gary Illyes posted a blog entry letting users know that Google started to use HTTPS as ranking signal and will reward websites using SSL connections with a boost into search rankings. For now it's only a very lightweight signal, affecting fewer than 1% of global queries and carrying less weight than other signals such as high-quality content.
